Amelia-Marie K. Altstadt, M.A. (they/she) is a Disability Studies doctoral student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. They present on a variety of subjects, focused in on how to create and foster disability culture. As a Pipeline to An Inclusive Faculty Fellow, they have research interests in disability culture, children of disabled adults (CODISA), performance studies, higher education, teaching, and theatre. They proudly identify as multiracial, disabled, queer, and a CODISA.
Recently they earned graduate student awards for papers in development on media analysis and memory. In 2024 they earned the Disability Visibility Fellowship from The Unexpected Shape. They were additionally the American College Personnel Association’s Coalition for Disability’s recipient for the 2022 Disability Leadership Award.
Holding a M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Amelia-Marie specialized in serving the high-achieving student population, particularly students of color, first-generation students, and disabled students.
They also hold a B.A. in Liberal Studies (Hutchins) from Sonoma State University. Originally from San Diego, California (Kumeyaay land), they are a proud member of Sigma Omega Nu, Latina Interest Sorority, Inc. and have two adorable cats.
